A Day at La Maison Academy: Where Learning Meets Joy

Our boutique preschool blends Montessori structure with Waldorf-inspired exploration, offering an enriching experience filled with hands-on activities, cultural immersion, and academic excellence. Here’s a glimpse into a day at La Maison Academy, where young minds thrive in a warm and inspiring environment.

Morning Welcome & Exploration
Our day begins with a warm welcome as children enter our beautifully curated space, designed to foster independence and creativity. The morning starts with free exploration and outdoor play, allowing children to engage in movement-based activities that strengthen gross motor skills and social connections.

Storytime & Early Literacy
Since it was a rainy day, we began with a cozy storytime session, fostering early literacy skills and encouraging imaginative discussions. We focused on memorizing a story from the children’s favorite book of choice of the day. We would repeat simple phrases together, and predict what happens next before turning the page! This was followed by Japanese reading practice focusing on A I U E O, as well as practicing penmanship. After the fun reading and writing practice, we dove into a French introduction session featuring Je m’appelle, using a storybook from the Louvre Museum about a blue Egyptian elephant inspired by a Parisian artifact.

Practical Life & Mealtime Etiquette
Children developed real-world skills through practical life activities, including strawberry cutting to prepare their own snacks. After enjoying their self-prepared snack, they participated in clean-up activities, wiping tables and mopping spills, reinforcing responsibility and order.

Geometry, Scissor Skills & Fine Motor Development
During our art and math session, children honed their scissor skills by crafting a sun and explored geometry through triangle-based activities. This was complemented by Montessori bead threading, reinforcing fine motor skills and early multiplication concepts.

Gross Motor & Sensory Play
To balance indoor time on this rainy day, we engaged in gross motor activities, setting up a color-matching obstacle course that included jumping, stacking, and movement games. This active play was followed by yoga poses to promote mind-body awareness and relaxation.

Music & Sound Exploration

Children engaged in early music theory, connecting piano tones to animals—high, short notes for baby ducks and deep, long tones for dinosaurs. This activity encouraged listening skills and rhythm recognition while integrating movement-based learning through stomping and musical expression.

STEAM & Scientific Exploration
We conducted a science experiment on dissolving brown sugar in warm and cold water, followed by pouring and dividing liquid into equal parts. The children were delighted by the changes, observing scientific reactions with excitement. A little taste of brown sugar brought smiles all around!

Sight Words & Reading Exploration
We reinforced sight words focusing on W and B, using whale and boat as key vocabulary words. This included a pop-up Alice in Wonderland book, where children actively matched A and W letters in the story while continuing with bead threading activities.

Shadow Theater & Physics of Light
To conclude the day, we engaged in a shadow theater activity, learning about light and shadow physics. This interactive experience sparked curiosity about how shadows form and change, making for a magical and immersive learning moment.
